Susan Lawrence is a Professor of Archaeology at La Trobe University, Melbourne, and an industrial archaeologist with expertise in mining heritage.  She has carried out archival research on the use of mercury in the historic mining industry.  As Director of the Rivers of Gold project (https://rivers-of-gold.com), she leads a multi-disciplinary team of scientists investigating the impact of mine tailings, including the dispersal of contaminants like mercury, on rivers in Victoria.
