Dr Sabri was trained as a chemical engineer and later completed his PhD in 2010 in the field of Applied Sciences (Chemistry). He has two major, one book chapter and >80 journal articles on nanomaterials development for mercury measurement & removal as well as Hg mobility studies in industrial process. Currently, he manages the Nanotechnology and Chemical Sensor group in RMIT University. The mercury sensor technology he has been working on is now patented and in the process of commercialization. Over the past 12 years he has worked on several industrial research projects to study mercury speciation and mobility with companies such as ExxonMobil, Alcoa, South32 and Newmont. His work with CSIRO has resulted in development of high capacity, efficient and recyclable nano-sorbents that can be used to selectively remove mercury from natural gas. Dr Sabri has received several awards including the Megan Clark award at the RACI Centenary Congress 2017, the RMIT Invention Disclosure award, AINSE travel awards and surface science awards.
